Needing answers, Reacher (Alan Ritchson), Green (Sydelle Noel) and Merrick (Christopher Rodriguez Marquette) reunite with journalist Russell Plum (Kevin Weisman) before a group of unknown mercenaries wipes out a squad of CIA agents to get to them leading to a road trip. Another conversation with Amisha Hoth (Anggun), who reveals herself to be a journalist on the case of attempting to expose both the Congressman (Marc Blucas) and his chief of staff (Chris Owens) of war crimes, gives Reacher a new foothold and allows for the reporter and Reacher to bond over both of them feeling responsible for Anna Merrick’s (Karen Kwong-Chip) death.

As Reacher deals with the new information, which appears to be on the level (even if there are still large blanks left to fill and another twist to drop before the end of the next episode), his actions will lead to witnessing another unexpected suicide by someone willing to die rather than reveal the truth. Meanwhile, the others lift a security pass from Anna’s car leading them to a government facility set up to digitize the kinds of records Anna installed on the missing thumb drive.

The mystery continues to widen, but obviously there’s something tied to the top secret operations in Indonesia someone with extraordinary reach is hell-bent on retrieving. “One Small Step” offers a couple of action sequences with Reacher helping his friends escape the safehouse with only a pair of chopsticks and a bowling alley brawl, complete with chucking a bowling ball at a guy’s head, when the mercenaries track down Amisha.
