Not featuring a single regular character of the series, and set on Coruscant rather than in deep space, “The Clone Conspiracy” is an anomaly for the series in more ways than one. It also seems to answer the longest running question of the series by reintroducing the character of Senator Riyo Chuchi (Jennifer Hale) who is far to similar to Omega to not make note of, although why someone may have wanted a more human clone of the Senator is still unclear. In a storyline that demands better treatment of veterans, Riyo fights for the rights of decommissioned Clones as the Empire attempts to push through legislation of a new conscripted military force.

Along with Riyo, the episode also offers a few other familiar faces in the Senate standing up for the Republic in Senator Bail Organa (Phil LaMarr) and Senator Tynnra Pamlo (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) as well as Rex (Dee Bradley Baker), who like Riyo, is searching for a Clone that knows the truth about what happened on Kamino and is in danger of assassination from Vice Admiral Rampart (Noshir Dalal). Our story is broken into separate parts including our unknown assassin killing Clones that might speak of events on Kamino, the Senate scenes and Riyo’s efforts, and when those two stories combine putting the Senator in danger.

Filled with tense action, mystery, and a not-so-subtle jibe at how a super-power should treat its veterans, the episode is a stand-out of the season. That said, “The Clone Conspiracy” has the unfortunate consequence of reminding us how much more interesting and influential storylines are occurring far, far from the Bad Batch and their daily lives on the edges of the galaxy.
