I missed this show. Will Trent returns for its Second Season with Will (Ramón Rodríguez) largely ignoring the events of last season (other than learn Spanish to honor his mother), Angie (Erika Christensen) pushing herself to get back to work too soon, Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) both struggling with relationships, and new crimes to be solved. The crime of the week involves a bomber targeting families of prisoners who refused or were unwilling to pay extortion to keep their loved ones safe. The bomb-heavy plot allows for the introduction of Susan Kelechi Watson as a bomb-tech and potential love interest for Will, but the show’s writers have other plans.
I loved Watson here who had great on-screen chemistry with our flawed protagonist. After only a single performance, you can feel the hole her character will leave behind in Will Trent’s life. Her untimely demise fits perfectly into the show’s pattern and provides fuel for Will to force a conversation with the criminal who may not be his father (Greg Germann) leading to next week’s confrontation. Will and Angie continue to be important touch points to each others lives, Ormewood’s homelife is going to get a whole lot more complicated, and after much denial Faith finally gives in to a new romance.
