The Silence of the Lambs movie review30 years ago, on Valentine’s Day, The Silence of the Lambs was released in theaters. While not the first of Thomas Harris‘ novels to be written about Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), nor the first to be adapted to film, The Silence of the Lambs stands out from the rest for the odd pairing central to its story. With prequels, sequels, and even television series, Hollywood has searched for a way to recreate the magic of a film that took home Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay while earning a reputation as an instant classic. 30 years later, they’re still looking.

The first thing you notice about watching The Silence of the Lambs is how well it holds up building tension and teasing the audience where the story will lead next. We start with the introduction of a FBI trainee sent to interview the former psychiatrist and currently incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer. The unusual relationship between the pair will provide the heart of the film as Lecter offers to help Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) hunt down a current serial killer, and former patient, Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine), as the tabloids have named him, who is killing and skinning young women.

The Equalizer - Glory television review

Team Equalizer gets its first case when a single mother answers Robyn McCall’s (Queen Latifah) ad after her son is kidnapped by human traffickers looking for information in her boss’ safe. It turns out her boss (Charlie Semine) is with the FBI and the safe contains the name of a confidential informant within the trafficking ring. Detective Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) continues to seek the mystery woman, including tying her to a recent double-homicide (where she saved to kids from the traffickers), but Robyn’s cause may have garnered a new friend in the FBI as her actions not only protect his witness but also lead to the discovery of a mole within his own team.

MacGyver - SOS + Hazmat + Ultrasound + Frequency + Malihini television review

MacGyver introduces Robert Patrick as grizzled veteran spy, and mentor to Matty (Meredith Eaton), Ian Cain who Team MacGyver is sent in to rescue when the embassy goes dark. “SOS + Hazmat + Ultrasound + Frequency + Malihini” offers an interesting puzzle as MacGyver (Lucas Till) struggles to discover what made the entire embassy sick before uncovering a group using a sonic weapon to empty the embassy and steal Cold War tech in the building’s basement they hope to turn into a weapon of mass destruction. Patrick is well-cast here, in a role that he could do in his sleep, but he’s not the only guest-star of note.

Clarice - The Silence Is Over television review

Clarice attempts to tap into the legacy of The Silence of the Lambs with a new series centered around FBI Agent Clarice Starling. Set one year after the events of the film (which the show gives us glimpses of in its recreations), the once-promising career of Starling (now played by Rebecca Breeds) has stalled. Kept out of the field by a psychologist unable to understand what she went through and a paparazzi unwilling to offer her peace, Starling has spent last year tucked away in the Behavioral Science wing far from any action. All that changes when Senator Ruth Martin (Jayne Atkinson), the mother of the victim (Marnee Carpenter) Clarice saved, uses her political will to pull Clarice out of hiding to help in the investigation of a new killer.
