Elementary - To Catch a Predator Predator

Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) are called in to investigate a murder the detectives believe are tied to the public Internet beatings and shaming of pedophiles. Learning that their victim was the man responsible for creating fake profiles on dating websites and luring pedophiles into admitting their proclivities, the detectives turn their attention on the men who their victim shamed. What they discover is more complicated, however, as one of the men beaten and exposed by their victim was actually innocent. And the true reason for his murder came from an entirely different motive.

Based on The Librarian TV-movies starring Noah Wyle, the series introduces a new crew of Librarians (Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, and John Kim) to save the world from magical threats. While Wylie returns for select episodes, including the series premiere and season finale, the focus here is on the new Librarians and their time working together along with their protector former counter-terrorism agent Eve Baird (Rebecca Romijn).

Highlights of the First Season include a trip to a Chicago science fair, a haunted house, an entire town out of sync, dragons, retrieving Excalibur, weaponized fairy tales, and an appearance by Santa Claus (Bruce Campbell).

Once Upon a Time - Heartless

With “Heartless” Once Upon a Time falls back on an old reliable (albeit with a twist). Threatening to expose Storybrooke to the destructive waters of the River of Lost Souls, Evil Queen‘s (Lana Parrilla) gives Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) just 12 hours to voluntarily turn over the one thing she craves more than in all the world – Snow White’s heart. Offering a feint hope which is dashed by the villain, the episode does allow for a flashback between David and Snow revealing they actually met far earlier than either remembered. As for the Queen’s revenge, it takes the usual course of a sleeping curse but with a Ladyhawke-like twist as in cursing the heart which they both share she may have finally found a way to keep Snow and Charming separated (at least for now).

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #7The conclusion of the series’ opening arc “Sinestro’s Law” pits student against teacher one more time. While Hal Jordan sends Soranik on a mission to deal with the Fear Engine and release those captured and tortured to feed Sinestro‘s power, Hal takes a stand against Sinestro one more time. Hal Jordan’s metamorphosis into something… other began during the New 52. While the comic suggests Hal gives his life to stop Sinestro’s reign of fear, the series’ title and the constant foreshadowing of something more in Jordan’s future makes me believe this isn’t the last we’ve heard from him.

Hal and Sinestro’s battle takes up the majority of the issue here with little more than cameos from Soranik and Guy Gardner. As for the Corps, John Stewart leads his Lanterns to the heart of the universe just in time to witness Hal’s big sacrifice.
