Star Wars Rebels - Imperial Super Commandos

The latest episode of Star Wars Rebels takes Ezra (Taylor Gray) and Sabine (Tiya Sircar) back to Concord Dawn with their Rebel prisoner Fenn Rau (Kevin Mckidd) who discovers his Protectors have been destroyed by Mandalorians loyal to the Empire. Forced into an uneasy truce with Sabine, Rau is forced to choose between making his escape on his own or helping Sabine rescue her friend and take down the Mandalorians who killed his men. The episode’s purpose seems to be to turn Rau from a reluctant prisoner to a valued ally. In the end he chooses Sabine over his own freedom, suggesting we will be seeing more of the character this season.

Hacksaw RidgeGrabbing a rifle and racing straight into gunfire is certainly an act of bravery. What then is making the same mad dash while refusing to carry a weapon of any kind? The latest film from Mel Gibson is based on the true story of contentious objector Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) who enlisted for the Army during World War II to serve his country as a field medic on the battlefield but earned the ire of the Army and his own company by his refusal to even touch a weapon.

Merriam-Webster defines a hero as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” It’s a term that is certainly overused, but it’s also impossible to describe Doss’ journey and his actions on the battlefield without using that word.

While not always a fan of Gibson’s work behind the camera, I will freely admit that the man has an unique understanding of complex emotions on the battlefield. The war scenes of Hacksaw Ridge are as brutal as any you are going to find in a war film which makes the “miracle” that Doss was able to achieve in Okinawa all the more powerful. Because of these sequences, Hacksaw Ridge isn’t a movie I’d recommend to all audiences. It certainly earns its R-rating.

The Good Place - ...Someone Like Me as a Member

Deciding not to immediately turn over his Eleanor (Kristen Bell) to the visitors from the Bad Place, Michael (Ted Danson) enlists the help of Tahani (Jameela Jamil) to distract and mollify his guests until a proper trade can be worked out. Meanwhile, Chidi (William Jackson Harper) begins to get to know the other Eleanor (Tiya Sircar) which only makes our “fake” Eleanor feel more out of place. These discussions also allow us a glimpse of what Eleanor’s life in the Bad Place would consist of and why neither woman would willingly want to go there.
