As Principal Weems (Gwendoline Christie) goes to lengths to cover up the death of one of her students, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) searches for answers about Rowan’s (Calum Ross) behavior and the book from which he ripped the page which he confronted her with on the night he tried to kill her. Things get a bit sidetracked in the middle with Wednesday helping out Enid (Emma Myers) beat Bianca (Joy Sunday) in a race she always wins. Friendship seems to be in the air for Wednesday, as not only does she help Enid (even if her motives are more about hurting Bianaca), but also befriends one normie teacher in the school who appears to take an immediate liking to Wednesday, although the seems to also know more about the book Wednesday is searching for than she lets on.

Jack Ryan – Old Haunts

  • Title: Jack Ryan – Old Haunts
  • IMDb: link

Jack (John Krasinski) relies on the help of a couple of old friends while on the run from the CIA, local police, and Russian Intelligence. There’s not yet a plan of action for Jack as the second episode into the season is simply staying one-step ahead of pursuers, something which Tony (Numan Acar) helps him with giving Jack time to later sneak out of the country with Mike (Michael Kelly). Elsewhere we also get Russian politics, the squeeze of the Czech Republic, and a bit of the odd pairing of Greer (Wendell Pierce) and (Betty Gabriel) looking for Jack but, like the Russians, ultimately going home empty-handed. The second episode is also notable for an expected tease suggesting the identity of the source of Jack’s intelligence. A solid episode that keeps its tension high before moving Jack on to set up the next stage of the season.

The Sandman doesn’t offer a very flattering view of humanity. In “Calliope” we are introduced to the former wife (Melissanthi Mahut) of Dream (Tom Sturridge). Calliope, a muse who, like him, becomes trapped by a human for years. In this case it’s an author (Derek Jacobi) who has used the muse’s gifts to earn fame and fortune. At the end of his life, rather than releasing the muse, as was their agreement, he sells her to another young writer (Arthur Darvill) struggling to write a second book who too finds the allure of fame and fortune too much to ever let her go.
