The Hardy Boys - The Drop television review

Finally working together, Joe (Alexander Elliot) and Frank‘s (Rohan Campbell) decipher the odd code left behind by JB Cox (Atticus Mitchell) and lay in wait, hoping to force answers out of whoever comes to pick up the idol. “The Drop” marks the first episode of the series with the pair teaming up to solve puzzles, lay in wait, and sleuthing. Once they discover it’s the not-so-dead Tall Man (Stephen R. Hart) who is after the idol, the pair lay a larger trap with the help of Callie (Keana Lyn), Chet (Adam Swain), Phil (Cristian Perri), and a reluctant Biff (Riley O’Donnell).

Queen Latifah stars in this reimagining of the late 80s TV-show as a retired intelligence officer who decides to put their skills to new use by helping out the innocent people in need. The show’s first episode introduces us to Robyn McCall (Latifah), her rebellious daughter (Laya DeLeon Hayes), and some old associates (Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, and Chris Noth) Robyn calls on to help a young girl (Lorna Courtney) framed for murder to an astonishingly degree (complete with instantaneous altered video footage). We’re also introduced to Tory Kittles as Detective Marcus Dante who becomes aware of Robyn’s activities and may prove to be an ally within the NYPD.

Throwback Tuessday takes us back to the mean streets of Boston and the travails of a smart ass private detective. In an episode that tackles themes of illegal immigration, political corruption, violence towards undocumented workers, racism, and questionable treatment towards immigrants under the law, Spenser (Robert Urich) is hired to find the missing father of a young boy killed in a hit-and-run. After witnessing the incident, and seeing the mother (Victoria Racimo) forced to abandon her dying child in the street, Susan (Barbara Stock) joins a local group looking to help provide help to illegal immigrants. While Spenser and Susan disagree initially on the politics of the situation, after seeing how the system has been corrupted to purposefully hurt refugees, and deny them protection under the law, it doesn’t take long for him to wholeheartedly embrace the job.

Prodigal Son - Take Your Father to Work Day television review

The humorously titled “Take Your Father to Work Day” brings the NYPD to Claremont Psychiatric Hospital where the Surgeon (Michael Sheen) witnesses the death of one of the other inmates. Writer Elizabeth Peterson has fun with Gil’s (Lou Diamond Phillips) disdain at working with Martin to solve the case. A group therapy session, made up of the prime suspects for the murder, also reveals some pent-up frustration Malcom (Tom Payne) has for his father. Other than the setting, the murder of the week isn’t terribly interesting, but it does clue Malcolm into the possibility that his father may be looking to break-out.
