Timeless - Pilot

NBC’s new time-traveling sci-fi series stars Abigail Spencer as a world-renown historian, Matt Lanter as a U.S. soldier, and Malcolm Barrett as a computer tech who are thrown together on a makeshift team to track down a villain (Goran Visnjic) who has stolen a time machine and headed into the past to change history. Armed with only their wits, Lucy’s (Spencer) knowledge of history, and their own ship which is linked to the stolen time-sphere, the three begin their journey in 1937 where Flynn (Visnjic) targets the destruction of the Hindenburg for his own purposes.

The Flash - Flashpoint

After choosing to go back in time and stop the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher) from killing his mother (Michelle Harrison), Barry (Grant Gustin) has settled into his new reality. With another speedster fighting crime as the Flash, Barry’s life is mostly good. Both his parents are alive and in good health, his arch-enemy is locked up and can do no further harm, and he and Iris (Candice Patton) hit it off when he finally gets the nerve to reintroduce himself to her. The only thing troubling Barry are visions of his true timeline which is slowly slipping away, a version of Joe (Jesse L. Martin) he doesn’t recognize, and missing the chance to play the hero for Central City.

Luke Cage - Code of the Streets

The second episode of Luke Cage works to push its title character out of the shadows and back into action. Pressured into service by a debt, Luke (Mike Colter) agrees to track down Chico (Brian ‘Sene’ Marc) for Pop (Frankie Faison) who hopes he can trade on his longtime friendship with Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali) to save the young punk’s life. What neither Luke nor Pop take into account, however, is the gangster’s trigger-happy lieutenant who decides to shoot up the entire barbershop once he learns where Chico is hiding. While Cottonmouth gets some swift justice for Pop’s murder, the attack is exactly what’s needed to push Luke out of hiding and take action.

Wonder Woman #7

Wonder Woman #7

While the “Year One” storyline is just getting the threesome acquainted in the odd issues of the new Wonder Woman series, Wonder Woman #7 reunites Wonder Woman with Cheetah and Steve Trevor as Wonder Woman her former friend turned enemy work together to free the captives and defeat Urzkartaga. The issue works well to wrap-up this part of the story while still leaving plenty to be delved into in the next arc. Will Diana’s fragile truce with Cheetah hold? What does her reunion with Steve mean for the future of the pair? I am curious to see where the comic will go next. Worth a look.

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #5

Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #5While John Stewart leads the Green Lantern Corps out of hiding and back into the universe, where they learn about the Sinestro Corps takeover, and Guy Gardner gets intimately acquainted with Sinestro‘s Fear Engine, the series’ focus shifts back to Hal Jordan. After explaining the steps Soranik took to save Hal’s life, the two sit down to catch up allowing the Green Lantern to heal and learn just what Sinestro has been up to in Hal’s absence.

The scenes between Hal and Soranik are the highlight of a mostly action-free issue. Along with discovering what his arch-nemesis has been up to the dialogue also allows Hal to reveal that the metamorphosis which began before Rebirth continues to effect him in ways he can’t yet explain. Soranik can offer no explanation about what is happening to her former teammate or where the changes may eventually lead.
