Once Upon a Time - A Bitter Draught

After being mostly absent from the season premiere, “A Bitter Draught” focuses on the Evil Queen‘s (Lana Parrilla) arrival in Storybrooke. Using the Count of Monte Cristo (Craig Horner) in both the present and in flashbacks to try and kill Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas), the Evil Queen’s true purpose to corrupt Regina‘s (Parrilla) soul and destroy all the hero’s happy endings by exposing untold stories no one wants told is revealed.

Elementary - Folie a Deux

The Fifth Season of Elementary begins with the return of a serial bomber to New York City after a six-year hiatus. The investigation reunites Watson (Lucy Liu) with one of her former patients (Nelsan Ellis) who apparently may be sticking around for a few episodes as a recurring character. While the investigation leads to an obvious suspect (Matthew Del Negro), Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson struggle with connecting the man to the crimes until the realize they are looking for not one bomber but two.

Blue Beetle #1

Blue Beetle #1The new Blue Beetle comic begins with giving us a look at Jaime Reyes‘ high school life, introducing a new group of super-powered vigilantes known as the Posse and foreshadowing a confrontation down the line between Blue Beetle and Dr. Fate of the hero’s scarab.

There’s a bit too much of the high school setting in this issue for my tastes. As with Blue Beetle: Rebirth #1, the best part of this issue is the back-and-forth between Blue Beetle and the last hero to use that moniker, his mentor Ted Kord. Kord is also on hand to be the butt of one of the issue’s jokes as the entrepreneur’s presentation at Jaime’s school doesn’t get him the response he hoped for.

Hawaii Five-0 - No ke ali'i wahine a me ka 'aina

Hawaii Five-0 enters the world of espionage as Chris Vance guest-stars as a British spy hunting down computer code which terrorists plan to use to hack nuclear silos across Europe creating the largest nuclear meltdown in history. Aside from the script which expects us to believe all nuclear weapons across multiple countries can be hacked remotely by a single hack, “No ke ali’i wahine a me ka ‘aina” provides it share of enjoyable fun and intrigue as Five-0 first hunts down the spy and then begins working with him to stop a world-wide disaster.

Once Upon a Time - The Savior

While leaving the return of the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) to be explored next week, the season premiere of Once Upon a Time focuses primarily on Emma (Jennifer Morrison) who begins having shakes and visions following the arrival of Hyde (Sam Witwer) and an unknown number of companions from the Land of Untold Stories. Exploring just who and what the Savior is appears to be one of the season’s big themes, which begins with a flashback revealing that Emma isn’t the first Savior and is followed much later by the revelation of what end fate has in store for Emma courtesy of both Hyde and the Oracle (Jordyn Ashley Olson). As to the identity of the villain destined to take down the Savior, we’ll just have to wait and see who it is revealed to be.
