Teen Titans Go! - Double Trouble & The Date

The latest episode of Teen Titans Go! takes a look at the challenges of both doppelgangers and dating. Looking for someone else to play “Caveman and Dinosaurs” with Beast Boy (Greg Cipes), Cyborg (Khary Payton) tricks Raven (Tara Strong) into creating a duplicate of himself, but soon finds himself left out of all the fun. His solution to trick Raven into creating a duplicate of Beast Boy only makes matters worse as the doubles get out of control in “Double Trouble.”

Rookie Blue - The Complete Third SeasonThe Third Season of Rookie Blue continues to looks at the latest crop of police academy graduates now serving in uniform with the 15 Division. Three seasons in you can’t really call the group rookies any more, but the show’s continued focus is the growth and development of its five young officers (and their, at times soap operatic personal lives): Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym), Gail Peck (Charlotte Sullivan), Traci Nash (Enuka Okuma), Chris Diaz (Travis Milne), and Dov Epstein (Gregory Smith).

Season Three includes more romantic troubles for the rookies. Nick Collins (Peter Mooney) in introduced as a new rookie as well as the Gail’s old flame (and potential new love interest). We also get an annoying amount of Andy’s on-again/off-again relatinship with Sam Swarek (Ben Bass), Epstein getting romantically involved with the sister (Mouna Traoré) of a gangbanger he shot and killed, and the tragic end of Traci’s relationship with Jerry Barber (Noam Jenkins) when Barber is killed in the line of duty.

Worlds’ Finest #12

Worlds' Finest #12After discovering the creature masquerading as Michael Holt is actually Darkseid‘s right-hand man Desaad, Power Girl finds herself under attack from all sides as warriors from Apokolips destroy various Starr facilities around the globe, Boom Tube-ing in and out without a trace, and Karen Starr herself is attacked in the press as her carefully created celebrity persona begins cracking around the edges.

Once again we get three artists whose styles only sort of work well together giving the art of issue #12 the kind of inconsistent look readers have come to expect from the series one-year run. It appears we’re going to get much more Apokolips and Desaad for the foreseeable future. I’ll admit this doesn’t excite me, but the Kara/Helena relationship at the heart of the comic continues to be its real focus.

An interesting note, Power Girl here appears in her classic costume (as well as the crappy New 52 version in flashbacks) that was reintroduced in the latest issue of Supergirl. I’m happy to see her back in her classic costume, but I did expect some explanation or acknowledgement of the change.

Ame-Comi Girls #3

Ame-Comi Girls #3Ame-Comi Girls #3, which centers around the alternate reality female-centric version of the DCU, introduces a new hero and a pair of villains with the latest issue. Jade, a blind Chinese woman without fear becomes the Earth’s first Green Lantern just in time to save herself, her father, and her brother from an attack by the villainous Flying Guillotine. Chinese officials are delighted to have such a powerful warrior of its own, although they are less than pleased the ring chose “a mere girl” and hope to reappropriate it as a military asset.

In the comics other story Carol Ferris, the first woman to step on the moon, comes across a crashed alien spaceship and (in a version of Hal Jordan‘s origin) discovers a dying alien who makes her the Earth’s first Star Sapphire. The issue also includes Wonder Woman and Power Girl announcing to the United Nations their plans to create a Justice League which will operate under the jurisdiction of Themyscira. The stories begin to converge at the end of the issue when Carol looses herself to her new found power and starts a fight with Power Girl over the affections of Jimmy Olsen.

Uncanny X-Men #5

Uncanny X-Men #5After their successful trip to the Jean Grey School School for Higher Learning, Cyclops, Magneto, and Emma Frost return to settle in their new recruits (Angel and the Stepford Sisters) and deal with Magik‘s bizarre episode in which she momentarily lost control of her powers and was dragged into Limbo by Dormammu who wants control of the realm. The only thing saves her is the reemergence of her Darkchilde persona.

For those unfamiliar with Magik and the source of her powers (and maybe even for those who know the character well) this new storyline seems like an odd shift in focus from the comic’s original arc. On the plus side the issue has some great character interactions including Cyclops doing his best to reassure Magik, and Angel’s on-the-nose comment about Magneto.

Magik’s inclusion on the team troubled me because I knew storylines like this were a very good possibility. Now with the entire team trapped in Limbo that’s where the comic seems headed for at least the next full issue. For fans.
