The Wild Storm #8

The Wild Storm #8 comic reviewThere’s a ton going on in this issue. The opening storyline involves Jacob Marlowe telling Angie Spica the truth about what he and his friends are doing on Earth… well, mostly the truth. This “easy-reader” explanation works both as a primer for Angie and readers, but of course leaves out some important details. While she’s a bit overwhelmed with what she’s learned, Angie has found a safe heaven, at least for now. Jacklyn King‘s team also identifies Grifter, leaving them with several questions about how to best proceed.

“I’m not worried about Maze. I’m worried about Canada.”

Lucifer - Mr. and Mrs. Mazikeen Smith TV review

Feeling a bit restless, and taking advice from Lucifer (Tom Ellis), Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) heads to Canada after the most dangerous bounty she can find. After terrorizing Canada for a few days, Maze catches up with Ben Rivers (Chris McKenna) only to discover he’s more illusive, albeit less murderous, than she’s been led to believe which only makes the chase more spirited… but not in the way Lucifer had intended.

Human Target - Corner Man television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another episode from the First Season of Human Target. By the time it got to “Corner Man” Human Target was running on all cylinders. The show had found the right combination of humor, action, and a beautiful guest-star. Helping out a fighter (Dash Mihok) who got in over his head, Chance (Mark Valley) makes a deal with an old enemy (Kenneth Welsh), calls in a favor with a championship boxer, and puts himself in danger in an underground ultimate fighting championship all to take down a crooked promoter (Peter Wingfield). Complicating matters are a case of the yips leaving our hero not fighting at 100% and his distraction with the mark’s right-hand woman (Grace Park) in whom he sees more than a little of himself reflected.

Rick and Morty - Morty's Mind Blowers television review

There are two interesting takeaways from Rick and Morty‘s version of a clip-show. After a troubling adventure involving Morty (Justin Roiland) looking into the eyes of an unknowing turtle, Rick (Roiland) offers his grandson the ability to have the memory removed and reveals and entire library of mind-blowing memories the scientist has taken out of Morty’s mind. Showing his grandson a few to demonstrate the point allows the show to offer us glimpses of several bizarre adventures without going into much depth while highlighting either the bad decisions of Morty, the questionable decisions of Rick, or something the scientist simply didn’t want his grandson to remember.

Game of Thrones - The Dragon and the Wolf TV review

Two queens, a dead man, and a dwarf walk into an arena. It’s the custom of Game of Thrones to offer a huge battle in the penultimate episode of each season while leaving the season finale to pick up the pieces, tie off various loose ends, and set the stage for the next year. “The Dragon and the Wolf” does all these things as it brings Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Cersei (Lena Headey) face-to-face for the first time. While the possibility of a truce doesn’t interest the Queen of Westeros, the proof of what is coming for them all beyond the wall can’t be denied. Daenerys’ show of strength also isn’t lost on Cersei. Letting herself be talked into a truce by the one man she hates more than any other in the world, Cersei gives Daenerys what she was hoping for… except she has no plans to actually fulfill her promise to help protect the seven kingdoms against the army of the dead. So much for a Lannister always paying their debts.
