Dark Matter - All the Time in the World TV review

Owing more than a little inspiration from Groundhog Day, the first-half of “All the Time in the World” is perfect. Trapped in a time-loop forcing him to relive the same day over and over again, a frustrated Three (Anthony Lemke) struggles to convince the crew of the Raza what is happening and find a way to break the loop. There are several smart choice here, including starting with Three already stuck in the loop after several days and the use of the “Butterfly Effect” to explain the differences caused by his choices every time through the loop. Then there’s the incredulity of his crewmates and the various ways he attempts, and fails, to convince them of the truth (including learning French). It’s the best use of the concept I’ve seen on television since Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s “Cause and Effect.”

Bambi Blu-ray reviewReleased 75 years ago, Walt Disney’s Bambi offers the coming of age story of a white-tailed deer named Bambi and friends Thumper and Flower. Because of the age of the characters varies ove the course of the story, multiple actors were brought in to do the voice work of Bambi and his friends. Although an older Bambi has a on-screen rival for the affections of his lady love, Disney goes a bit darker here with the looming threat of Man being the true villain of the film responsible for both the death of Bambi’s mother and later the fire which threatens the entire forest at the end of the film.

Even with a focus on making the animals more realistic, Disney still lost money on the feature in its initial release. However, it made it’s money back (and then some) with several additional theatrical releases over the years. Because of its darker themes the film was met with a mixed reception initially, but has earned it’s spot over the years as one of the best animated films ever made.

The Fifth Season of Arrow comes to a close in an explosive season finale that returns Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) to Lian Yu to save his kidnapped friends and put an end to Prometheus (Josh Segarra) once and for all. And with the deck stacked against him, he’s not going alone. It’s homecoming week in the season finale as Ollie enlists the help of Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law), Digger Harkness (Nick E. Tarabay), and Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett). The final choice is a bit odd, considering the last dozen times we’ve seen him Deathstroke has been murderously intent on killing Oliver. Apparently sometimes prison rehabilitation works, as Slade is less murdery and crazy than we saw him last. While one of Oliver’s rag-tag band betrays him, Slade proves to be worthy of his trust.

Samurai Jack - Episode CI television review

“Episode CI” offers a bittersweet ending to the tale of the time-displaced samurai warrior that began on August 10, 2001. With Jack (Phil LaMarr) captured all eyes turn to Aku (Greg Baldwin) who broadcasts his victory across the entire world. The final episode brings in several faces we’ve seen over the course of the series including a personal favorite of mine in the forest creatures that once taught Jack to jump good. Rising to the call, all of those once saved by Jack attack Aku giving Jack a fighting chance. While not in any serious threat, the sheer number of Woolies, Scotsmen, Spartans, Canine Archaeologists, Archers, Triseraquins, the giant Robo Samurai, and others do provide the momentary distraction for Jack to reach the Aku-controlled Ashi (Tara Strong) who not only discovers her free will but also the fact that she shares Aku’s powers – which include the ability to create a time portal.

Lucifer - God Johnson television review

I’ve been looking forward to this episode since the moment I heard about the casting. I did have some trepidation as to Lucifer actually exploring God in human form as much of the show’s premise relies on him to be an absentee parent. With “God Johnson” the show’s writers get to have their cake and eat it to while providing both a cathartic reunion of sorts for Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and dear old dad while finding a way to still keep God far removed from the daily life of his son and his Los Angeles shenanigans.
