Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another episode featuring a man who can be anyone he wants to be. The Third Season of The Pretender opens with Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) in a mental institution raving about those out to get him while The Centre puts the pieces back together after the explosion that destroyed SL-27 and left Sydney (Patrick Bauchau) temporarily without sight. While Miss Parker (Andrea Parker) is still in control of the search for Jarod, she’s given unexpected, and unwanted, assiatance by the the return of Mr. Lyle (Jamie Denton). Lyle’s return will earn Syndey a reprieve from Centre justice and answer a linger question about Miss Parker’s family tree.

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to the adventures of the time-displaced samurai and his quest to make his way home. Following a trail of destruction, Jack (Phil LaMarr) discovers multiple villages and cities destroyed by a cadre of Ultra-robots designed by the scientist Extor (Jeff Bennett) and powered by the evil of Aku (Mako). The structure of the episode allows for a long lead-in with Jack putting together the pieces of what has occurred from survivors of the attacks and finally from the scientist himself who was tricked into believing that in helping Aku he would save his own village from destruction.

Far Sector #5 comic reviewOn the furthest edge of the known universe, rookie Green Lantern Sojourner Mullein continues to search for answers into the City Enduring’s first crime in 500 years. With the help of an Artificial Intelligence, the Green Lantern searches for answers and patterns to the mystery, although answers continue to allude her.

After teasing readers for several issues about Sojourner’s past and her relationship to the Corps, Far Sector #5 finally starts to fill in some of the gaps to her past, offering glimpses into the history of injustice she has fought her entire life, and the attempts of service which would eventually lead to a once in a lifetime offer (interestingly, it appears the ring did not choice its wearer in this case).

Usagi Yojimbo #9

Usagi Yojimbo #9 comic reviewThe two-part “Tatami” story concludes as the Neko Ninja attack the caravan carrying the ceremonial mats, destroying them and disrupting Lord Gifue’s tea ceremony with the Shogun. Despite the considerable efforts of Miyamoto Usagi and Chizu helping out to defend the mats against the ninja, the encounter ends with the mats destroyed and the villains triumphant.

We don’t often see Usagi fail when he sets his mind to a task, but although he and Chizu (and many of the soldiers guarding the mats) escape the encounter unscathed, the ninjas complete their task in undermining the upcoming ceremony between a rival lord of their employer and the Shogun.
