Warehouse 13 - Where and When television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a top-secret storage facility in South Dakota known as Warehouse 13. Warehouse 13 is overflowing with agents in “Where and When” which marks the first episode with Helena (Jaime Murray) reinstated as an agent, a choice Artie (Saul Rubinek) is extremely displeased with, and the return of an ailing Rebecca St. Clair (Roberta Maxwell) who needs Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly) to solve one final case. After hearing of Rebecca’s blackout during the time of the case, Wells correctly assumes that her time travel machine was used and so history repeats itself as Pete and Myka’s consciousness travels back to 1961 into the bodies of Rebecca and her partner Jack (Chad Connell) to find the artifact (they do) and see if history can be changed (it can’t).

Naomi #6

Naomi #6 comic reviewThe six-issue mini-series comes to a close with a story that spans two planets as Naomi steps foot on the alien world where she was born and comes face-to-face with despot who has slaughtered it (and her parents) for his own amusement. Still not fully in control of the power that is now flowing out of her, the kid manages to hold her own long enough to get home (and prevent the creature from taking even a single step on the adopted world she calls home).

As with many of the previous issues there are some small moments that stand-out as Annabelle sticks up for her friend and Naomi bonds with her mother over one hell of a day.

Star Wars Adventures #23

Star Wars Adventures #23 comic reviewThe main story of Star Wars Adventures #23 takes place after the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star. Wanting to spend a bit more time piloting the Millennium Falcon, and give Han and Leia some privacy, Lando persuades Chewbacca (who doesn’t want to watch Han and Leia get all lovey dovey) into another mission. Being Lando, however, he fails to adequately explain the risks before getting the pair into trouble.

Looking for information about pirates hitting Rebel supply lines sends the pair into a Battle Race where they don’t fair too well against the other competitors (at least until a Star Destroyer shows up to rally the other racers to Lando’s side and fight off a remnant of the Empire). The story is goofy fun, and has the added bonus of working in a character from the prequels as well.

Batman: The Animated Series - Perchance to Dream television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Gotham City for Kevin Conroy‘s favorite episode of Batman: The Animated Series. After a night fighting crime, Bruce Wayne (Conroy) awakes to a world where his parents are alive, he is engaged to Selina Kyle (Adrienne Barbeau), and someone else is patrolling the streets as Batman. Initially distrustful of all he sees, Bruce eventually comes to accept his new reality. However, the discovery of his inability to make sense of the written word reawakens his suspicions that he is trapped with a dream world and he redoubles his efforts to discover the truth. For a series that enjoyed playing on noir themes, “Perchance to Dream” is full of them as the unseen villain gaslights our hero (albeit as a gift rather than a form of torture).

Star Wars: Target Vader #1

Star Wars: Target Vader #1 comic reviewThe first issue of the new six-issue mini-series sends Darth Vader after a secret syndicate known as the Hidden Hand. While the Emperor may be able to turn a blind eye to some smugglers, he cannot abide those willing to see to the Rebellion. Vader’s early searches only turn up whispers of the Hidden Hand as he leaves destruction in his wake.

The first issue also gives us Han Solo knock-off cyborg bounty hunter Beilert Valance who isn’t well liked by the other members of the Bounty Hunters Guild. While a rule breaker, Valance isn’t crazy enough to get into business with the Hand… until he discovers just what the job entails. Valance is the final member of a squad already including Honnah, Urrr’k, Chio Fain, Arr-Nine-Nineteen, and Dengar who were all hired to kill one man. Is Vader hunting the Hand, or is the Hand hunting Vader?
