Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #29

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #29Stymied by the limitations of his role as a Vengeance Demon and the rules still in place on the Vampyr tome (which seem to come out of nowhere by the way) by Willow not allowing him to expand his power any further, D’Hoffryn and his minions (who include the no longer ghost duplicate version of Anya) attack Buffy and her friends.

The first-half of the season finale finally pits the Scoobies directly against the big bad Buffy’s decision making helped create. Revealing Anya to the rest of the team, to the suprise of all the Scoobies except Xander, D’Hoffryn takes special glee in how his new disciple deals with her kinda-sorta former fiance.

“Just because I’m sad doesn’t mean I’ve given up hope.”

Wander Over Yonder - The Flower

Even the most optimistic person in the galaxy loses hope sometimes. In final episode before the Season Two finale, it’s Sylvia‘s (April Winchell) job to instill some hope in Wander (Jack McBrayer) by attempting to save a single flower in a broken and destroyed galaxy. However, when every attempt to save the plant (including translating it to a variety of worlds) all which turn out to be disastrous, especially once Dominator (Noël Wells) decides to crush the pair and destroy the flower, it’s all she can do to keep her best friend from breaking down in tears. Like most of the show’s best episodes, there’s a great lesson in “The Flower” behind the amusing antics of our heroes. Despair doesn’t mean the absence of hope, and life (even in the cruelest of conditions) usually finds a way.

Star Wars #21

Star Wars #21Star Wars #21 breaks from the formula of Marvel’s main Star Wars comic. Moving away from the adventures of the core characters from the original Star Wars trilogy, the latest issue focuses instead on Sgt. Kreel and his new squad of elite Stormtroopers tasked with finding and eliminating Rebel insurgents throughout the Empire.

The latest issue is more a military comic with the squad learning to trust their new commander while performing their orders from the Emperor. While Stormtroopers have gotten a bad name (given their inability to hit anything resembling a target), writer Jason Aaron and artist Jorge Molina show that this is a different breed of soldier than those other walking targets seemingly trained solely to be shot down by the Rebellion.
