The Gifted - eMergence television review

Although I enjoyed The Gifted, I was feeling a bit of super-hero TV fatigue and eventually fell off from the show’s slow building First Season which was heavy on world building and weak on payoff. The Second Season premiere beings with Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) consolidating her power within the Inner Circle and preparing for an important birth. As for our heroes, they continue to save what mutants they can from the increasingly vicious and murderous Sentinel Services while Caitlin (Amy Acker) and Eclipse (Sean Teale) continue to search for answers about the whereabouts of their missing loved ones. The premiere resets the stage for the season with our heroes, what was once the Hellfire Club, and Sentinel Services all with distinct motivations and agendas. Despite Payge’s murderous spree to open the episode, she still comes off better than the human soldiers killing unarmed men, women, and children in their own homes.

Justice League Unlimited - Double Date television review

Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the animated adventures of Justice League. If it wasn’t for “Clash” this would be my favorite episode of Justice League. There’s so much to enjoy here as the episode gives us pairings of the Question (Jeffrey Combs) and the Huntress (Amy Acker) along with Green Arrow (Kin Shriner) and Black Canary (Morena Baccarin). Opening with the Huntress failing a test and being kicked out of the League when she attempts to kill a Federal witness (who murdered her family years before), the episode moves into Huntress teaming up with the Question while Black Canary and Green Arrow are tasked with keeping the loathsome Mandragora (Glenn Shadix) safe from them. Written by Gail Simone, starring Amy Acker and Morena Baccarin, and featuring my favorite version of the Question, it would be nearly impossible for me not to love this episode. And the humor! Oh, my.

Throwback Thursday takes us back to the final episode from the First Season of Human Target. The aptly-named “Christopher Chance” will finally reveal a few truths about Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), his first meeting with Winston (Chi McBride), his old line of work, and the woman who turned his world upside down. Still working as an assassin, our protagonist tricks Winston into giving up the location of a protective witness. With every intention of killing Katherine Walters (Amy Acker), at the last second our hitman for hire changes his mind and decides to break with his boss (Armand Assante) and take the witness on the run. Looking for all the help he can get, he chooses to go to the one man known for keeping people alive: Christopher Chance (Lee Majors).

The Gifted - got your siX TV review

Six episodes into the series, there’s now more than a little evidence that Caitlin Stucker (Amy Acker) is the only good person, mutant or human, on the show. It seems dropping everyone in a morally ambiguous world that forces compromise and settling has pushed, or is actively pushing, all other characters in the other general direction. Even Eclipse (Sean Teale), who was loathe to give into violence with the exception of rescuing his girlfriend, is in full murder-cause-its-easy mode this week along with Polaris (Emma Dumont). Given what’s coming for them and their children, and the needs of the mutant underground protecting them, both Stuckers have to make some tough choices in how involved they want their children to become in the fight against Sentinel Services and the United States Government.

The Gifted - boXed in television review

After losing his prisoners, Turner (Coby Bell) calls in every agent he can and begins a systematic search for the mutants. While several of the mutants, particularly Fade (Jeff Daniel Phillips), aren’t happy with the arrival of Reed (Stephen Moyer), Daddy Stucker will help prove his worth by leading the pursuit away from the mutants’ hideout and Kate (Amy Acker) and her children will continue to pitch in by helping to save another mutant’s life. Despite their initial plans to flee the country, it looks like the Stuckers have found a new home.
