Batman: The Animated Series Figures

After already getting a look at Batman and Catwoman, DC Collectibles gave MTV a first peak at the designs for five more of the new Batman: The Animated Series line of figures hitting stores this November (Wave 1 – Batman, Catwoman, Two-Face, and Mr. Freeze) and December (Wave 2 – Joker, Poison Ivy, Robin, Man-Bat). You’ll find pics of the separate figures inside. Personally, I prefer the original version of Freeze and Ivy, and the later version of the Tim Drake Robin, but as I’m going to gleefully pick all these up, and know DC has plans for many more characters (including the original design of Batman – Yes Please!), I’m sure not going to complain too loudly.

Batman: The Animated Series - On Leather Wings

After spending time take a look back at some of Superman‘s television adventures, and in honor of Batman‘s 75th Anniversary, we turn out attention to those of The Dark Knight. Four years before Superman got his own 90s series of animated adventures, DC premiered what still stands as the benchmark for every animated series which came afterwards. Inspired by Tim Burton‘s successful Batman films and the classic Fleischer Superman cartoons, producers Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski would craft an ambitious series and the first piece of DC Comics’ Timmverse which would continue to produce the best animated super-hero cartoons ever made over the next decade.

DC Nation - Batman Beyond

As part of the ongoing celebration of Batman turning 75, DC Comics commissioned Darwyn Cooke to write a DC Nation short in the Batman Beyond Universe. Returning both Will Friedle and Kevin Conroy to voice two generations of Batman, the short features the Batcave infiltrated by a robotic Batman (H.A.R.D.A.C.?) in The New Adventures design taking on both Terry McGinnis (Friedle) and Bruce Wayne (Conroy).

Holy Batman: The Animated Series Toys, Batman!

btas-toys-news-catwoman-batman

This news makes me insanely happy. Among DC’s new action figures are the Batman: The Animated Series version of Catwoman (still my favorite version of the the character’s costume). Although I have the 3.5in. figure from the original series, its less-than-ideal mold limits how you can pose the figure without it toppling over. Also announced are figures from the revamped New Batman Adventures (the final season of BTAS that featured different designs for several of the characters) including Batman, Mr. Freeze, and Two-Face. You can find the full press release, including news on all the various other toys and figures DC the company plans to release this year, inside.

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman

Batman: Mystery of the BatwomanBatman: Mystery of the Batwoman was the third and final straight-to-DVD animated film put out by Warner Bros. Animation following the cancellation of Batman: The Animated Series (Mask of the Phantasm doesn’t fit into this group as it was made a decade earlier and saw a limited theatrical release). The movie keeps the Bruce Timm style of the series as well as most of the show’s regular voice cast including Kevin Conroy returning as the voice of Batman.

The show returns familiar villains the Penguin (David Ogden Stiers) and Rupert Thorne (John Vernon) as well as introducing mid-level gangster Carlton Duquesne (Kevin Michael Richardson) and his impetuous daughter Kathy (Kimberly Brooks), who acts as Bruce Wayne’s love interest for the movie. The movie also introduces a new version of Batwoman (Kyra Sedgwick) who uses lethal force to stop Penguin and Thorne’s illegal arm sales leading her into confrontation with Batman.
