After breaking out of an A.R.G.U.S. facility where he was being held against his will and racing into a situation he didn’t fully understand, the Flash is forced to work with the Suicide Squad to hunt down a terrorist with plans of an imminent attack.
The introduction of King Shark (thankfully closer to his classic look than the New 52 revamp) and the addition of Cupid continues to round out the group and give the Task Force X a more comic book feel that works better on the printed page (but certainly raises some questions about whether we’ll ever see a character like King Shark appear on the television show). It also helps beef up the group in terms of giving them the heavy-hitter they have been missing.
Given its focus you could certainly argue that The Flash: Season Zero #10 is more a Suicide Squad issue than a Flash issue, but our hero still finds moments to shine (such as getting rid of the explosive device in the comic’s climax) even if it leaves limited opportunities for his supporting cast to earn much time. Worth a look.

Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts

Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts is odd to say the least. Cobbled together from a variety of Batman storylines over the years, Batman Unlimited cherry-picks pieces of DCU continuity to offer a new (but not really fresh) take on the characters involved. Set in the not-so-distant future of Gotham City (with a definite Batman Beyond vibe) the straight-to-video movie opens with Batman (Roger Craig Smith) clad in a Beyondish red and black costume before eventually donning his more classic colors.
The film centers around the a group of animal-themed villains in Silverback (Keith Szarabajka), Cheetah (Laura Bailey), Killer Croc (John DiMaggio), and Man-Bat (Phil LaMarr) all working together as “the Animalitia” under the leadership of the Penguin (Dana Snyder). The Penguin also has an army of robotic animals who range from nearly unstoppable to easily destroyed (in the climax our heroes easily dispense with a number of the creatures while they struggle to deal with even single one for most of the movie).

The choice. With the Flash (Grant Gustin) defeating the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) in last week’s episode the First Season finale deals with the fall-out of that victory and the chance Barry is offered by his mentor/arch-nemesis to change the past. Given the same opportunity in the comics Barry Allen leapt at the chance to save his mother from the Reverse-Flash without taking into account the consequences of such an action on both his own timeline and all of those whose lives he touched. In the comics Barry’s choice led to Flashpoint and a bizarre alternate reality eventually leading to the birth of DC’s New 52. The finale’s payoff is far more satisfying.

The Flash – Rogue Air

Leaving next week’s season finale to deal with the fallout from this week’s episode and Barry‘s (Grant Gustin) quest to save his mother, “Rogue Air” returns several of the villains from the first season, brings in to super-hero guest-stars, and wraps up the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) storyline (at least for now). With the Reverse-Flash apparently ready for an end game that includes repowering the particle accelerator (which would kill all the meta-humans within the makeshift prison), Barry is faced with calling on the help of Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) who, not surprisingly decides to use the situation to his own advantage.
