The Flash - Grodd Lives

Although the search for the Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) and the missing Eddie (Rick Cosnett) remain a priority for Barry (Grant Gustin) and his team, things get a bit more complicated when a new player emerges. Teased earlier in the season, Grodd gets a proper introduction in “Grodd Lives” as the capture of a mind-controlled gold robber, who turns out to be General Wade Eiling (Clancy Brown), leads Barry, Joe (Jesse L. Martin), and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) into the sewers underneath Central City where they find the gorilla who was Eiling’s old experiment augmented by the Accelerator explosion and is now able to bend others to his will.

The Flash - The Trap

With The Flash racing to its First Season finale in three weeks “The Trap” brings the battle between the Flash (Grant Gustin) and the Reverse-Flash front-and-center beginning with the discovery of Harrison Wells‘ (Tom Cavanagh) secret room within S.T.A.R. Labs, confirmation that he’s a time-traveler, and glimpses into various aspects of Barry’s future (not all of which he’s able to properly process). Comparing Cisco‘s (Carlos Valdes) dream to the reality Barry rewrote during his short jump backwards in time the group decides to set a trap for Wells hoping to recreate his confession of the murder of Barry’s mother before the group takes him down.

The Flash - All Star Team Up

Things are looking up for Central City. Crime rates have fallen as appearances of the Flash (Grant Gustin) have risen with the city’s new hero helping Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Eddie (Rick Cosnett), who is struggling with keeping Barry’s secret from his girlfriend, with several recent collars. With Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) needing a little help on his A.T.O.M. suit, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and her new boyfriend make a trip to Central City to see her friends at S.T.A.R. Labs. The guest-appearance by both Felicity and Ray allows for her to coax the truth from Barry about what is bothering him about his team while Ray’s first appearance on the show allows both he and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) to go into full geek mode and an instant bromance while working on the suit.

Convergence: Speed Force #1

Convergence: Speed Force #1Now that’s more like it. After being horribly disappointed with Convergence: Batgirl #1 I was feeling less and less sure about DC’s new big event centering on battles between previous versions of characters not found in the current New 52 DCU. Convergence: Speed Force #1 gives us Wally West back in action as the Flash and his kids Jai and Iris.

Like pretty much every Convergence tie-in issue, Speed Force #1 begins by offering us glimpses of the hero’s life without powers after the city is transported by Brainiac. With the fall of the barrier the Flash and his kids take a run across the bizarre world coming across an assortment of odd characters including another speedsterFastback!

Although I’m not sure I’m ready to see the Flash take on the Flashpoint version of Wonder Woman next issue, I am excited to see Wally and Fastback team-up. Unlike Convergence: Batgirl #1 this issue gets the feel of its characters right. (Plus I’m all in favor of throwing the Zoo Crew as much love as possible.) Worth a look.
