Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #18

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #18“Old Demons” comes to a close as despite Archaeus‘ temporary hold over Angel pitting Buffy‘s ex against her current undead boyfriend, and having a host of lesser demons to fight off the rest of the Scoobies, the gang finds a way to come through in the end. Despite the fact that the arc comes to a close here with Archaeus’ defeat neither the demon nor the “Restless Door” artifact are taken out of play leaving the opportunity for one or both to make an appearance later in the season.

The further Buffy gets from the end of Season Three the less weight an appearance by Angel has on the character. More fun is the interaction between Spike and Angel (part of what made Season Five of Angel so entertaining). Not only does Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #18 finally allow the pair to bury the hatchet but it also forshadows future trouble for Buffy’s rekindled romance (although I’d be happy to see Angel proved wrong).

iZombie - Blaine's World

iZombie closes out its first season wrapping up the murders from last week’s episode and presenting Liv (Rose McIver) with a series of awful choices when she discovers Major (Robert Buckley) is being held by Blaine (David Anders) who is hellbent on getting his astronaut brains back from Liv’s old boyfriend. Although the season finale doesn’t make any movement on Peyton (Aly Michalka) reacting to her best friend being a zombie it does wrap-up several plotlines including Major learning Liv’s secret and Liv making painful choices regarding the limited amount of zombie cure that leave our heroine a member of the undead for the foreseeable future.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #15

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #15There are two battles happening simultaneously in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Ten #15. The first involves Buffy and the Scoobies battling the ancient demon Archaeus whose bloodline runs through Spike, and the second involves the battle within Buffy’s boyfriend’s brain as Archaeus’ pull brings out the bloodthirsty nature of William the Bloody and sicks it on Buffy and her friends.

Mind-controlled for half the story, Spike plays a big role in the issue that allows the vampire with a soul to prove his worth and fight off his darker nature. Xander also shows up for some quick thinking in the middle of the battle and later to put a rest to the awkwardness with Dawn which the pair have struggled with since the beginning of the season.

The issue ends with the team regrouping after a marginal victory without hope of defeating the demon alone and teasing the first big crossover event since Angel‘s wacky Twilight adventure. A Buffy, Angel, and Spike team-up? Okay, that sounds like some serious fun. Worth a look.

iZombie - Astroburger

When a mental patient is murdered in in the same psychiatric wing which Major (Robert Buckley) checked himself into Liv (Rose McIver) makes the questionable choice to eat the man’s brains leading her to continually experience hallucinations over the course of the episode (not all of which she recognizes as figments of her imagination). The dead man’s speil about zombies to Major followed by the patient’s death leads to a quick end of Major’s volunteer stay in the psych ward (but not his obsession about what is really going on in the city).
