Murder in a Small Town - The Suspect

Sometimes you get more than you expect, and that was the case for me in sitting down to watch the opening episode of Murder in a Small Town which comes off a bit more like a TV-movie than the first episode of a series. Into the sleepy coastal town of Gibsons, British Columbia, we get a couple of newcomers in Chief of Police Karl Alberg (Rossif Sutherland) and the even more recently arrived Corporal Edwina Yen (Mya Lowe). The notable members of the police force are rounded out by the notably less-talented Sergeant Sid Sokolowski (Aaron Douglas). And, as the title of the show suggests, into the sleepy town comes murder.

Smallville - Leech

Superman Sunday takes us back to Smallville, Kansas, and the time Clark Kent (Tom Welling) lost his powers. Like the Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman episode “A Bolt from the Blue,” Clark transfers his powers to another person in “Leech.” Unlike the Lois & Clark episode where both characters had powers at the same time, in “Leech” Clark is rendered human with all of his powers transferred to a classmate following a freak lightning strike. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Eric Summers (Shawn Ashmore) isn’t the most stable person to be granted the powers of Superman.

Smallville - Hug

Superman Sunday takes us back to Smallville, Kansas, and the arrival of scumbag salesman Bob Rickman (Rick Peters), able to influence people through his Kryptonite-powered handshake, who comes to town to build a pesticide plant on the Kent farm and deal with his old friend (Gregory Sporleder) who could expose the secret of his persuasion. The B-story of the episode involves a horseback riding accident where Lana (Kristin Kreuk) is unsure whether the town hermit, Bob’s old friend Kyle, was responsible. This causes conflict between Clark (Tom Welling) who thinks the best of him (and sees a bit of himself in the man) and both Lana and Whitney (Eric Johnson) who get angry at Clark for not lying about what he actually saw to help the police to imprison a man Clark feels is innocent.

Smallville Saturday takes us back to the time Amy Adams came to Smallville. Guest-starring as an overweight teen obsessed with shedding pounds, Jodi Melville (Adams) gets her wish when her meteorite-infused vegetable shakes shed her body fat but also leave her with insatiable cravings. Making her a friend of Clark‘s (Tom Welling) offers early clues to what is going on, and the episode giving Jodi a crush on Pete (Sam Jones III) gives him something more to do in the episode as well.

Smallville Saturday takes us back to another episode of the series where those changed by meteor rock will affect Clark‘s (Tom Welling) life. While volunteering at the Smallville Retirement Center, Clark, Pete (Sam Jones III), and Lana (Kristin Kreuk) meet a pair of interesting people in Cassandra Carver (Jackie Burroughs), a woman who can see the future and foretells the death of someone close to Clark, and Harry Volk (George Murdock and Eric Christian Olsen) a murderer who is transformed into his younger self by the meteor-filled pond on the grounds and begins targeting the descendants of the jury who convicted him… including one named Kent.
