Scooby-Doo! - Go Away Ghost Ship television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. Mystery, Inc. decides to investigate the sudden appearance of the Ghost of Redbeard the Pirate (John Stephenson) whose pirate ship has been raiding local freighters owned by C.L. Magnus (Stephenson). The episode goes all in on pirates with Redbeard, his old school pirate ship and henchmen, and his secret hideout inside the caves of Skull Island. There’s even Redbeard’s ghost sword which chases the gang (and whose abilities aren’t completely explained away by “being on wires”).

Scooby-Doo! - Spooky Space Kook television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. Running out of gas near an abandoned air field, Mystery, Inc. decides to investigate the odd appearances of a Space Ghost haunting the area. Following some mysterious glowing footprints, the gang gets a look at the Space Ghost, and his ship, who chases them around the abandoned buildings before being trapped in a wind tunnel. The episode is notable for Freddy (Frank Welker) getting stuck in a sticky situation rather than Daphne (Stefanianna Christopherson), Shaggy (Casey Kasem) and Scooby (Don Messick) discovering the majority of the clues, the unique setting of the creepy air field, and a story that doesn’t allow enough time for a trap as the villain is caught running for cover when the Sheriff arrives. The design of the Space Ghost is one of the more memorable of the series and has made other appearances over the years in comics and later series.

Scooby-Doo! - Which Witch is Which? television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. While taking a shortcut through a swamp, Mystery, Inc. runs into a Zombie (John Stephenson) by the side of a road and a story about a Witch (Don Messick) cursing the deserted area with dark magic. While the gang uncovers clues as usual while being chased by one or the other monster, the largest clue comes from pure luck when their out-of-control boat snags a sunken armored car which the masked hoodlums have been searching for this entire time. Why they dressed up in odd disguises when there was no one to scare is a bit of a head-scratcher, especially as it causes the gang to stick around rather than continue on to their planned fishing trip.

Scooby-Doo! - Scooby Doo and a Mummy, Too television review

Throwback Thursday takes us back to Scooby Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. Mystery, Inc. investigate the Mummy of Pharaoh Ankha (John Stephenson) which appears to have come to life at the aptly-named Department of Archaeology. While looking for answers, the gang runs across both statues of the Professor (Don Messick) and Dr. Najib (Vic Perrin) made to look like the mummy petrified both men. After getting separated from Scooby (Don Messick), the gang find a statue of him as well (although it doesn’t take long for Scooby to dig out of the shed where he was being kept and break the illusion of petrification). While there’s some obvious holes in the idea of the quick molds (not to mention the impossibilities of a mystical table saw), the statues add a nice touch to the story and help inspire fear of the Mummy who is searching for a golden coin that unlocks hidden treasure.
