Star Wars Rebels - Relics of the Old Republic

Wrapping up events begun in last week’s episode “The Lost Commanders,” the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels opens with the Empire closing in on the crew of the Ghost and their new Clone allies. Stuck planetside until the Phantom can be fixed, Ezra (Taylor Gray), Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Sabine (Tiya Sircar), and Zeb (Steven Blum) fight alongside Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) against a ground assault of AT-ATs led by Agent Kallus (David Oyelowo) himself. “Relics of the Old Republic” also teases the introduction of a new Inquisitor (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez) who we will no doubt be seeing much more of beginning next week.

Star Wars Rebels - The Lost Commanders

With the Rebels on the run and in need of new allies Ahsoka (Ashley Eckstein) sends the crew of the Ghost to look for an old ally of hers who she refers to as a great military mind with firsthand knowledge of the Outer Rim. Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is skeptical of their mission, especially when it turns out Ahsoka’s friend, and his associates, are all clones. With the introduction of Rex (Dee Bradley Baker) Star Wars Rebels continues to build on the history of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and deal with the fallout of Star Wars: Episode III – The Revenge of the Sith and the fall of the Jedi.

Star Wars Rebels – The Complete First Season

Star Wars Rebels - The Complete First SeasonSet five years prior to the events of the original Star Wars, Star Wars Rebels introduces us to the motley crew of the Ghost: ship’s captain Hera (Vanessa Marshall), Mandalorian artist and explosives expert Sabine (Tiya Sircar), Zeb (Steven Blum), insane robot Chopper, Jedi in hiding Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.), and the newest member of the crew in thief turned padawan-in-training Ezra (Taylor Gray).

Capturing the feel of the original film while introducing us to an entirely new set of characters (and a few familiar faces). I was immediately hooked. Highlights of the First Season include the two-part season premiere, the arrival of Grand Moff Tarkin (Stephen Stanton), Ezra earning his lightsaber, Empire Day, the battle against The Inquisitor (Jason Isaacs), the introduction of a familiar scoundrel, a look inside the Imperial Academy, and the season finale which brings back a pair of familiar faces who will likely have a large impact on Season Two.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Downfall and Duel of Droids

R2-D2‘s importance both to Anakin (Matt Lanter) and the Republic is highlighted in this two-episode arc when Anakin’s trap for General Grievous (Matthew Wood) fails losing both his ship and his astromech droid. Given that R2 contains battle plans and strategies key to the entire sector it quickly becomes a race as to who can get their hands on the droid first. It also leaves the Rebel general vulnerable as his replacement droid turns out to be working for Grievous (something it takes everyone far too long to figure out) and continues to put the Jedi in harms way.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Malevolence

The first multi-episode arc of the series centers around General Grievous‘ (Matthew Wood) ship The Malevolence and its massive ion canon which the Separatist commander has been using to cripple Republic patrols and outposts. “Rising Malevolence” focuses on Jedi Master Plo Koon (James Arnold Taylor) and clone troopers Boost, Sinker, and Wolfe discovering the truth about the new weapon while holding out for survival in the wreckage after its attack in the Abregado system. “Shadow of Malevolence” follows Anakin (Matt Lanter), Shadow Squadron, and a fleet of new Y-Wing bombers of Clone Troopers taking a shortcut through the the Kaliida Nebula in order to sneak up on Grievous and destroy the ship which is preemptively stopped in “Destroy Malevolence” when Palpatine (Tim Curry) leads Senator Amidala (Catherine Taber) into a trap allowing Grievous to temporarily halt the attack.
