Harley Quinn #72

Harley Quinn #72 comic reviewI believe in Booster Gold. Harley Quinn enlists the help of the greatest hero you’ve never heard of to look into why her best friend Alicia was murdered. While the pairing might seem a bit odd, it does invoke memories of of the character’s madcap antics in the Justice League International before DC’s various attempts to turn the character more serious, lose him in time, or wipe him out of existence completely.

The investigation takes them from the wrestling ring to a cult, uncovering a cache of Apokolips technology and a building project by the suspicious Jonathan Wittleson. Harley’s gut tells her Baby Face is behind the murder. While nobody but Harley could make sense out of the clues they find (making her conclusions dubious at best), the journey itself is worth it. Goldie Quinn indeed.

DC Super Hero Girls: Infinite Frenemies #2

DC Super Hero Girls: Infinite Frenemies #2 comic reviewMetropolis High School‘s dance may not be a typical teenage experience, but it turns out to be a pretty typical night for the DC Super Hero Girls when Livewire attacks, taking over the auditorium’s sound system, and forcing the kids to keep dancing.

There’s quite a bit of fun here leading up to Livewire’s appearance including Zatanna‘s obsession with creating the perfect evening, Supergirl‘s reluctance over attending, and Wonder Woman‘s forceful attempts to arrange dates for herself and her friends. Writer Amanda Deibert and Erich Owen even work in the reluctance of the shier students to hit the dance floor without little push.

Thanos Loses

  • Title: Thanos Loses
  • Comic Vine: link
  • Writers: various
  • Artists: various

Thanos Loses comic reviewThanos Loses collects five separate issues from Marvel Comics, each featuring a victory over the Mad Titan by various Marvel Heroes. Taken out of context, some story elements are lost here but the individual issues do provide what the comic promises.

Guardians Of the Galaxy #25 features a rampaging resurrected Thanos being taken down by the Guardians of the Galaxy in a storyline that also includes appearances by the original Guardians. While Secret Wars #8 features little of the Mad Titan, the universe-resetting event does feature one of his most complete defeats at the hands of Victor von Doom.

Batman: The Adventures Continue #1

Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 comic reviewSet sometime during the later seasons of Batman: The Animated Series (after the show’s redesign), Batman: The Adventures Continue #1 continues the adventures of Gotham’s Caped Crusader. Written by the show’s producers Alan Burnett and Paul Dini, and drawn by Ty Templeton, the comic captures the look and feel of the show (even if it isn’t the more classic Batman design from the show’s earlier seasons, which I prefer).

We’re given a bit of a regular night in Gotham for Batman who takes down Bane before getting involved in the larger story involving a robot stealing from S.T.A.R. Labs and Bruce Wayne sparring with Lex Luthor at a dinner party which reveals Superman is missing and Lex is doing more in Gotham than just hobnobbing with Gotham’s one-percent.

Once and Future #7

Once and Future #7 comic reviewFollowing his victory over zombie King Arthur, Duncan‘s life didn’t exactly go back to normal. There are still mystical and unworldly threats in the world the once unsuspecting young man is uniquely qualified to deal with, and, with the help of Meg and his Gran, Duncan’s destiny continues to unfold.

Originally set to be a six-issue mini-series, Once and Future continues with a new adventure that provides some familiar faces (such as the return of Galahad who has been transformed by his king) and new threats (including a robbery at the British Museum whose end goal appears to have been to return Beowulf to the world).
