Berlin - La energía del amor

A prequel to Money Heist (a show I will admit I haven’t watched) the opening episode of Berlin is entertaining but also a bit shaky at times. We start out with a small heist theoretically included to introduce the members of the crew and allow each to show off their special skills. Unfortunately, the entire heist relies on Berlin (Pedro Alonso) carrying off a con and the others doing little more than stand around (which one of them almost screws up). We do get some narration in a montage introducing the crew to us, although we don’t get to see these skills put into action.

Red Sonja #6

Red Sonja #6

Near death, Sonja journeys into the diamond to converse with the god trapped within the jewel. Hoping to free the damned, those cursed by the choices they made, Sonja makes a decision that turns out to have unanticipated consequences. The stories combine when Varg walks through the door created by Sonja, reengaging his enemy in a final battle.

The Little Mermaid

The latest unnecessary live-action Disney remake cast Halle Bailey as mermaid princess Ariel who dreams of visiting the surface world despite her father’s (Javier Bardem) distrust of humans. While not the most awkward adaptation Disney has tried, there’s nothing in this version of The Little Mermaid that doesn’t feel like a pale comparison to the original 1989 animated-film whose theme of a girl giving up her own voice for love I’ve always found a bit problematic.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians - We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium

After an introductory episode that led to Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) realizing he’d been lied to his entire life and introduced him to the magical world which was more than just his imagination, and a second episode that dramatically increased the amount of information and characters of the magical world in fleshing out the unfortunately named Camp Half Blood (only to have nearly all those characters and setting be immediately removed from the ongoing narrative), Percy sets out on his quest with Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri). “We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium” is the best of the uneven series so far foreshadow trouble for the quest, disagreements among the trio, and a run-in with Medusa (Jessica Parker Kennedy). While still very much Harry Potter-lite, at least the actual storyline of Percy’s quest has begun.

Harley Quinn #35

Harley Quinn #35

There’s not an abundance of plot in Harley Quinn #35 with pages and pages devoted to Harley‘s monologuing and freaking out about her problems and the evil Brother Eyes monologuing about their plans (without giving anything away). The issue boils down into the evil Brother Eyes kidnapping Harley’s students and holding them hostage as an attempt to bait Harley into a trap while also infecting most of Harley’s new multiversal friends with their virus.
