Daredevil - A New Napkin television review

Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) has won. With the charges against him wiped away, anyone who could do damage to him has been killed or discredited. And with the FBI firmly under his thumb, the Kingpin prepares for his wedding. With Fisk’s victory all but complete, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) plans on attacking the Kingpin on his wedding day and putting down the villain for good. To do so means on relying on the help of Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) who Daredevil has just the right leverage to push over the edge and aim straight towards Fisk. Meanwhile, one last chance at taking Fisk down legally falls directly into the laps of Foggy (Elden Henson) and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) with a dying confession by Ray Nadeem (Jay Ali) that can unravel the Kingpin’s entire operation.

Daredevil - The Perfect Game / The Devil You Know television review

Despite still being under house arrest by the FBI, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) goes on the offensive. When his plan to have Matt Murdock‘s (Charlie Cox) killed fails, the Kingpin tries a different tack by attempting to slime the missing attorney’s reputation by alleging Murdock worked for Fisk as a fixer. Despite offering no proof to back up his claims, other than a single case that Nelson & Murdock worked for one of the Kingpin’s shell companies back in Season One, the FBI runs with the story and begins to hunt Matt Murdock. At the same time, using information gathered about Benjamin Poindexter (Wilson Bethel), the Kingpin goes to work on the man’s thin support system, slowly bending Dex to his will ending in the agent dressed in Daredevil’s costume murdering an entire newsroom under Fisk’s orders.

“So the Devil is back.”

Daredevil - Please / No Good Deed television review

The second and third episodes of Daredevil‘s Third Season focus on Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) striking a deal with the FBI and Matt Murdock‘s (Charlie Cox) continuing struggle as he slowly recovers more and more of his gifts. In a poetic choice (or cliched, depending on your point of view), Murdock’s hearing returns at the exact moment for him to learn that Fisk is free once more. Stalking his prey, and even taking out a half-dozen members of the FBI protecting the Kingpin, Daredevil begins hallucinate a version of Fisk speaking directly to him, egging him on to bring the fight and fury back to his enemy. Even with his hearing know fully restored, it doesn’t look like the tortured soul angle is going to fade away any time soon. The two episodes are also noticeable for introducing an important supporting character in FBI Agent Benjamin Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) who comic fans will know by another name.

Marvel's Defenders - Mean Right Hook television review

The slow inter-connection between Netflix’s four Marvel super-hero shows begins here as Misty Knight‘s (Simone Missick) multiple run-ins with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and the bitchy private eye’s proximity to dead bodies, which also allows her to meet a certain Hell’s Kitchen lawyer, and the more violent meeting between Danny Rand (Finn Jones) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) whose separate investigations lead them to the same warehouse where the Chaste have been slaughtered. The Cage/Iron Fist battle is pretty much run-of-the-mill comic story with two heroes mistaking each other for adversaries and duking it out before discovering they are on the same side. While the Knight/Jones interaction is less explosive, it does help set the stage for the police getting involved in the heroes’ battle with the Hand.
