Cadillac Records (Official Soundtrack)

  • Title: Cadillac Records (Official Soundtrack)

The new film Cadillac Records is based on real events of the music scene in the 1950’s and 60’s involving the influential Chicago label Chess Records.  Hitting stores just days before the film, the soundtrack is available in both as single-disc and a deluxe two-disc version.

Included on both are Beyonce singing “At Last,” “Once in a Lifetime,” and “I’d Rather Go Blind” (the first of which is by far the best of the three recordings).  Jeffrey Wright belts out “I’m a Man” and “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man,” and Mos Def sings “Nadine” and let’s us know there’s “No Particular Place to Go.”  Rounding out the collection are “6 O’Clock Blues” sung by Solange, Columbus Short singing “My Babe,” and “The Sound” by Mary Mary.

Coming Soon to Theaters

  • Title: Star Trek
  • IMDB: link

I have to admit I’m a little less enthused after viewing this latest trailer for the new Star Trek film which will hit theaters next summer.  Do we really need to see Kirk (Chris Pine) as dumb pre-pubescent kid?  And did he just tell Spock (Zachary Quinto) to “buckle up”?  Eric Bana, Simon Pegg, Winona Ryder, Karl Urban, John Cho, Zoe Saldana, Bruce Greenwood, Anton Yelchin, and Ben Cross also star.  Check out the official site.  The film beams into theaters on May 8, 2009.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Comic Book Film

  • Title: Punisher: War Zone
  • IMDB: link

Because the previous attempts to bring the character to the big screen have been so successful (note the sarcasm) the character gets yet another reboot with Ray Stevenson in the title role taking on New York’s underworld.  Dominic West, Larry Day, Doug Hutchison, Wayne Knight, Dash Mihok, and Angel alum Julie Benz also star.  Check out the official site.  The Punisher returns to theaters on Friday.
