Spider-Man: Brand New Day feels like director Destin Daniel Cretton and screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers grabbed everything in the kitchen and blended it together, not sure of how exactly it would turn out. What they deliver is film that needs to both be a new start and a finale for Tom Holland as the Wall-Crawler, that needs to wrap-up the threads left dangling after Spider-Man: No Way Home, open up the Spidey world for several existing Marvel characters including Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), Yelena (Florence Pugh), and Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and introduce a key new character pivotal to Marvel’s non-Spidey plans moving forward.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan delivers his epic interpretation of Homer‘s Odyssey which, behind gods and monsters, is the tale of one man’s journey home from war. Nolan casts Matt Damon as Odysseus who, when the film opens, is already lost to the world. His home has been overrun by suitors (most notably a sleazy Robert Pattinson) for his wife (Anne Hathaway) who have ill-intentions for his throne and his son (Tom Holland).

Top Ten Movies of 2024

2024 wasn’t as top-heavy as some years, but there was a wide variety of good movies. Here’s a look back at my favorites from those movies I was lucky enough to view this year. Despite my best efforts there will always be some not included here if access was limited, the film wasn’t released in time for review before the end of 2024, the film wasn’t made available for awards consideration, or I simply ran out of time. Likely some of those other films you’ll see reviews for later in 2025 but they are not in consideration here. Here then, is my list of the best movies of 2024.
