Following his own sacrifice in the desert and Cady (Cassidy Freeman) awaking from her coma, Longmire (Robert Taylor) returns to work to investigate the murder of a local game warden by a poacher killing elk out of season for ingredients for an expensive herbal remedy. The search for the poacher leads Longmire back to the hospital and a father (Lochlyn Munro) with a sick young son (Cameron Moulene) showing the side-effects of the supplement and to a Chinese engineer (Nelson Lee) who admits to bringing small amounts into the country legally but denies any involvement in harvesting organs to create his own supply or the murder.

With both Walt and Branch (Bailey Chase) too emotionally-invested in the case to be of much assistance, it falls to Vic (Katee Sackhoff) and Ferg (Adam Bartley) to track the man (Arron Shiver) who ran down the newly re-elected sheriff’s daughter and left her for dead.

After receiving reports of a wild horse tearing up farmland, Longmire (Robert Taylor) and Henry (Lou Diamond Phillips) capture the runaway and begin an investigation into the dad body tied the horse which Longmire believes is tied to an illegal travelling underground rodeo. Longmire and Henry also have to deal with the return of Detective Fales (Charles S. Dutton) who has a few questions for the sheriff’s friend about the death of the man who murdered Longmire’s wife.
