Bizarro, and his connection to the other two Outlaws, is the focus of Red Hood and the Outlaws #13. With their friend dying, Red Hood and Artemis go to the one person who they believe might be able to save him, the Superman clone’s creator – Lex Luthor. Choosing to help, while threatening legal action for theft of his property, Luthor gets to work on Bizarro as Red Hood and Artemis become introspective about how the odd creature has brought them together. While the first group of Outlaws was thrown together, this group has bonded in large part thanks to a super-powered white-skinned moron.

After arcs centering on Jason Todd and Artemis, the current run of Red Hood and the Outlaws shifts focus to their companion Bizarro whose clone body has begun to break down. Understanding his condition, but unwilling to allow his friends to fight a rampaging Solomon Grundy alone, Bizarro chooses to join the fray.

While the comic has built up a connection between Red Hood and Bizarro over the first few issues, Artemis’ reaction to Bizarro’s condition is a little more surprising. Perhaps it’s caused in part by recent events and losses, or perhaps she has come to respect the creature as a warrior given his help to them in Qurac. Either way, the three strangers have become something of a team, and maybe even more, over the course of the first dozen issues.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #11 wraps up the four-part Artemis arc with the Outlaws finding themselves on opposite sides of the the Qurac conflict. However, it doesn’t take much more of Akila‘s out-of-control behavior for Artemis to recognize her friend, dead or reborn, is long lost to her. The tragic end helps cement a bond between the former Amazon and Red Hood, although the issue’s final panel does suggest some serious fallout for the other member of the team. As for Artemis, she’s not got a new godly weapon (one that drove her oldest friend into a murdering psychopath) to look after. Yeah… that should end well. For fans.

The search for the Bow of Ra leads the Red Hood, Artemis, and Bizzao to Qurac where the team will split up. While Bizarro will be given the opportunity to play at being hero (continuing to draw the short straw while his friends get far more pages devoted to them), his two teammates’ return will force each to individually deal with demons from their past.

Feeling very much like a middle issue in a larger arc, the latest chapter of “Who is Artemis?” is memorable for reuniting Artemis with her long-lost bestie Akila, killed years ago but returned to life, the return to the desert haunts Jason as he is forced to relive this death at the hands of the Joker and come to peace with who he is today long after his own resurrection.
