Danger Man - The Leak television review

Throwback Tuesday takes us back into the Cold War spycraft of Danger Man. John Drake (Patrick McGoohan) is sent to North Africa to investigate reports of locals being poisoned by a nuclear power plant run by Europeans. While the episode admits the possibility of the reactor causing the condition, or the nuclear waste produced by the factory, neither is given much weight in the episode. The truth proves to be both insidious and convoluted as Sheik Ahmed (Marne Maitland) is poisoning his own people in small doses to anger them against the power plant which would usurp much of his power in the region.

Although he doesn’t have much in the way of spy tools in “The Leak,” Drake does make good use of a Geiger counter to help trace the cause of the radiation poisoning back to one of the Sheik’s mills. The episode is notable for Zena Marshall as an European doctor investigating the illness and Drake outwitting would-b assailants twice during the episode. The first occurs when he’s led into an ambush in a blind alley and the second, and more devious, involves Drake poisoning the Sheik in order to elicit a confession (and bringing in the cavalry before the irate Ahmed can take vengeance).
