Lucifer - Take Me Back to Hell

Can the Devil be redeemed? “Take Me Back to Hell” begins with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) framed for murder and finally willing to allow Amenadiel (DB Woodside) to return him to Hell. However, given the mess the pair have made with both Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and Malcolm (Kevin Rankin), Lucifer’s brother convinces him to stay around long enough to put things right. Although that choice nearly gets both of them killed, it also sets up the show’s upcoming Second Season.

There’s an important shift in events in the season finale that not only closes Chloe‘s (Lauren German) long investigation into Malcolm and the murder he attempted to pin on Morningstar but also offers an opportunity to write Detective Douche (Kevin Alejandro) out of the show if the writers so choose. Both ashamed of their recent failures, the finale also offers the opportunity for a turning point in the relationship between angel and devil as we see the pair make a formidable team.

It’s Lucifer’s near death, however, and his willingness to sacrifice himself for Chloe and her daughter, that sets up a major change for Season Two. All of the show’s First Season Lucifer has been on the run from both Heaven and Hell, enjoying life and solving a few crimes. After his sacrifice the Devil is returned to the mortal realm, healed of his wounds (something Chloe chooses not to question), and tasked by his father to hunt down someone who has escaped Hell in his absence. It will be interesting to see if the search for the Devil’s “mum” will be quick or an ongoing storyline for the show’s Second Season. Either way, this time around Lucifer’s role on Earth is sanctioned by his father (at least for now).
