Comic Book Movie News

Iron Man seems to be the one summer popcorn flick that’s got the most buzz right now.  Last week at WonderCon a new poster was revealed featurring all three of the Iron Man armors used in the film.  Pretty sweet!  Check out the full image in the Full Diagnosis, plus recently released photos of ol’ Shellhead in flight and some of the supporting cast as well!  You can also visit Marvel Online to download 14 wallpapers for the film (sign-in required)!  You’ll know more when we do!

Akira

Now here is a classic anime, Akira.  This one is a little older than I like to review, but I figured it was a good time to throw it out there.  If you haven’t heard, they are coming out with a new live action Akira, hopefully they will improve a few things.

This is post World War III, 30 years later to be exact, in Tokyo.  Tokyo was destroyed in the war and Neo-Tokyo was built on the remnants of the old city.  Don’t start thinking this is a paradise, no way, the city is riddled with gangs, crime and shady political characters in office [what’s new about that?].

Comic Movie News

We told you about the new Wolverine film back in October, and with the recent announcement of several new cast members it seemed like a good time to revisit the subject.  Hugh Jackman will reprise the role for the prequel, and Liev Schreiber is indeed on board, but as Sabertooth (yeah, I didn’t know Sabertooth was Jewish either!), not William Stryker.  Marvel has announced the addition of Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Will.i.am (of the Black Eyed Peas) as Johnny Wraith, Danny Huston as William Stryker, Lynn Collins as Kayla Silver Fox, Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Dominic Monaghan as Beak, and Danniel Henney as Agent Zero. Check out the Full Diagnosis to see how the casting matches up to the characters.  You’ll know more when we do!

Soaring Through the New Frontier

  • Title: Justice League: The New Frontier
  • IMDB: link

“We need our heroes to stand up and show us what this country is supposed to mean.”

Although I’m a huge fan of the Justice League animated series I wasn’t too thrilled with their first big feature film Superman: Doomsday (read that review).  On hearing their next project would be an adaptation of Darwyn Cooke’s DC: The New Frontier, I was a tad skeptical about what the finished project might look like.  I shouldn’t have worried; this time they get it just right.

Set i the 1950’s, an age of distrust and the height of McCarthyism, the film opens with the end of the Korean War and test pilot Hal Jordan (David Boreanaz) ill-fated final mission.  It’s appropriate the film (not counting the pre-credit sequence) opens with Jordan, because he more than any other character is asked to carry the film.
