Batman - Two-Face

In honor of Batman‘s 75th Anniversary we turn out attention back to the Dark Knight’s more memorable moments on the big and small screen with another episode from Batman: The Animated Series. Originally created in 1942 Harvey Dent (originally named Harvey Kent) was Gotham’s good looking District Attorney who lost his sanity after having acid thrown into his face during trial. Having already established a friendship between Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy) and Harvey Dent (Richard Moll) in “Pretty Poison,” the two-parter focuses on Harvey’s transformation into one of Batman’s most dangerous villains. One of the more interesting choices the writers of Batman: The Animated Series made when introducing Harvey Dent was to give the character pre-existing mental problems well before his transformation into Two-Face (something later comic versions have chosen to adopt as well).

Atomic Robo: The Knights of the Golden Circle #5

Atomic Robo: The Knights of the Golden Circle #5Atomic Robo: The Knights of the Golden Circle #5 wraps up the latest Atomic Robo mini-series with the hero’s newest worst plan to stop the invincible cyborg army of Baron Heinrich von Helsingard and his Basilisk war zeppelin. (Sounds awesome, right?!) Although victorious alongside Doc Holliday and U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves our time-displaced science-adventurer doesn’t survive the final battle. Knowing his energy reserves were low, Atomic Robo had a plan in place to return his remains home at the right time, however a little neglect and bureaucracy in the future has left an all-important crate and its contents sitting untouched for more than a hundred years.

It’s not every issue of Atomic Robo in which you get to see our hero die, although the state of his remains keeps the door open for his return to the present (or perhaps near future?) as soon as the crate is discovered. Who exactly opens the crate, now that Tesladyne has been shut down, however, opens up new possibilities for what kind of world Robo will find himself in, and what kind of Robo readers may find, once our hero is brought back to the world of the living. Worth a look.

Star Wars Rebels - Empire Day

Spending Empire Day on his homeworld of Lothal brings back painful memories for Ezra (Taylor Gray) and reveals a bit of the street urchin’s past to his crew mates in a well-executed manner that helps to explain Ezra’s difficulty connecting and trusting others. The date, which also happens to be the kid’s birthday, is a painful reminder of the Empire abducting his parents for their subversive efforts to fight back against the oppressive regime.
