Rick and Morty kicks of it’s Fifth Season with an episode that introduces Rick‘s (Justin Roiland) arch-nemesis and prevents Morty (Roiland), once again, from getting romantic with Jessica (Kari Wahlgren). Crash landing in the ocean after their latest adventure forces Rick to deal with Mr. Nimbus (Dan Harmon) who rules Atlantis and the Earth’s oceans. Throwing a dinner party for his foe leads Rick to short-cuts including aging some wine on world where time moves differently causing no end of trouble for Morty when trying to retrieve the wine across decades while becoming the legendary scourge the other reality will come together to destroy.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon leans heavily into 1970s style with a tale of Batman (David Giuntoli) teaming up with the other former students of his former sensei (James Hong) to prevent evil being unleashed in by the Kobra Cult. I was quite impressed with the first-half of the movie, although the straight-to-video movie reminded me more and more of Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which also started off quite strong but lost its way a bit in its second-half.

Usagi Yojimbo #20 begins a new arc with the introduction of young swordmaster Yukichi Yamamoto who meets Miyamoto Usagi for the second time. The pair’s first meeting is shown in a flashback in which Yukichi retells the meeting where the young pupil was too slow to recognize Usagi’s skill with a blade denying a meeting for the rabbit ronin with Itsuki-Sensei. Now with his master dead, Yukichi travels to deliver Itsuki-Sensei‘s sword his nephew Daido.
The flashback meeting, which Usagi has long ago forgotten about, and hold no ill-will, but which still haunts Yukichi, offers an interesting way to pair the two together as something more than just simple companions on the road. It turns out Yukichi is thankful for Usagi’s company as some local marauders take interest in the two travelers (and aren’t too happy with being publicly rebuffed).
