Throwback Thursday takes us back to a mystery involving the Three Investigators whose mantra of “We Investigate Everything” leads them to investigate the unusual mystery of an alarm clock that screams. The Mystery of the Screaming Clock is one of my favorites of the series and possibly my favorite set-up and reveal of any of the Three Investigators mysteries.
When his uncle comes into possession of an alarm clock whose alarm is a blood-curdling scream, Jupiter Jones sets out to find answers about the clock and where it came from. The mystery will lead Jupiter, Pete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews on a series of clues and riddles tracking back the disappearance of a professional radio screamer whose home has a room full of clocks of all shapes and sizes, each of which include one of his many recorded screams.
With others after the clock, the Three Investigators discover the missing man has left a series of clues for a hospitalized friend to solve starting with the clock his wife threw out amongst the garbage and eventually came to find itself in the Jones Salvage Yard. Tracking down other friends only leads to further riddles drawing the interest of a gang of thieves and the promise of a prize hidden at the end of mystery involving the canvases of several stolen paintings whose discovery could make one man rich and free another from an unjust prison sentence.
