Throwback Thursday takes us back to a mystery involving the Three Investigators whose mantra of “We Investigate Everything” leads them to track down a dead man’s belongings which will lead to a larger mystery. The Mystery of the Shrinking House offers an interesting set-up as the trio of Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews don’t know exactly what they are searching for or where series of paintings depicting a smaller and smaller versions of a house will eventually lead them.
Several of the series’ standards are used including the Ghost-to-Ghost Hookup to find the paintings and Skinny Norris causing trouble. There are also others who are interested in the paintings including a limping man, the deceased’s sister, a local professor, and a robber found inside the dead man’s cottage. The story also throws in a locked room mystery and a lost masterpiece, along with a few twists, before all is said and done.
