The Wild Storm #19

The Wild Storm #19 comic reviewIf you have been waiting The Wild Storm to take a breath and offer an issue that helps explain the various factions and motives at play, you don’t want to miss The Wild Storm #19. Already having explored the tensions between Skywatch and I.O., the latest issue turns its attention to the more powerful players still lurking in the shadows. Not only does issue #19 explain the history of Jacob Marlowe and his alien race, and how its plans to cultivate Earth as a client species became something different, it also helps explain the competing agenda of the Daemonites and their purpose on Earth.

The Wild Storm #19 definitely fills in some gaps and helps explore a few more tweaks writer Warren Ellis has made to this version of the reimagined characters from the old WildStorm imprint.

The Wild Storm #18

The Wild Storm #18 comic reviewWith open war between Skywatch and I.O. all but certain at this point, tensions continue to rise and sides will be chosen. For John Lynch that means another throwdown with an enhanced human. For Henry Bendix that means readying himself to put his weapons into action and slave them to his commands. And for Angela Spica that means accepting an offer from Jenny Mei Sparks and helping to form the backbone of an Authority. It looks like Angie’s former pals will have to get along without her.

The Wild Storm #17

The Wild Storm #17 comic reviewJohn Lynch‘s trip down memory lane takes him to the most dangerous member of the Thunderbook project, although coming face-to-face with Rainmaker is nothing like what Lynch expects. Of all the dangerous human/alien hybrids Lynch has encountered, Rainmaker (originally the most dangerous) seems the most at peace with himself and the alien parasite that has driven the rest of Thunderbook crazy. As with the other members of Thunderbook, Lynch discovers Rainmaker has also passed on his genes implying another Gen13 character is part of the new Wild Storm universe.

The Wild Storm #16

The Wild Storm #16 comic reviewJohn Lynch‘s check-ins with former members of Project Thunderbook continues as his journey takes him to Gloria Spaulding. The interaction goes better than some of Lynch’s recent attempts (Gloria doesn’t attempt to kill him), but as with the others changed by Thunderbook, Spaulding is far from human… although like another member of Thunderbook she has passed something down to a daughter (as the comic continues to pave the way for a new version of Gen13).

The Wild Storm #16 also offers the first interaction between Jenny Mei Sparks and Angela Spica when Jenny becomes aware of the Engineer’s existence. Although Angela doesn’t sign up with Jenny’s new group, the conversation does spur the Engineer to take steps to protect herself from the growing conflict.

The Wild Storm #15

The Wild Storm #15 comic reviewWith The Wild Storm #15 the tensions between I.O. and Skywatch continue to escalate and Henry Bendix attacks the Earth from space in retaliation with of one of his little sticks. While a temporary ceasefire is put into place between the two agencies following Bendix’s latest move, it is unlikely to last (especially as both sides continue to plan for the destruction of the other).

The bulk of the issue deals with the humans experimented on and implanted with alien biology. Shen is able to “fix” Jack Hawksmoor to the point where he can at least reveal what was done to him, and, in an even more disturbing revelation, why. We also catch back up with John Lynch visiting another one of his human transformed in Project Thunderbird subjects who isn’t too happy to see his old friend, causing another confrontation.
