Person of Interest - Lady Killer

When Reese (Jim Caviezel) and enlists Finch (Michael Emerson) discover their latest number, a womanizing playboy (Warren Kole), may not only be a stalker but also a serial killer, the pair enlist the help of Shaw (Sarah Shahi), Carter (Taraji P. Henson), and Zoe (Paige Turco) to set a trap with the three women as bait. After the investor chooses Carter the group discovers their number isn’t the perpetrator but the intended victim of the father (Ron Raines) of the one-time love of the young man’s life to protect a nine-year-old secret.

In the episode’s B-story, The Machine arranges the escape of Root (Amy Acker) when Hersh (Boris McGiver) begins to narrow in on her location. Root’s escape is a foregone conclusion, but the method of her escape including the set-up and her outlining it to her disbelieving psychiatrist (Bruce Altman) work quite well. Eventually Finch arrives, alerted that her number has come up, but Root is long gone.

The ladies night out gives the episode a slightly different style, allowing three characters who have had very little interaction to spend a few scenes together, and the episode keeps the truth about the investor and the cause of his dangern hidden for most of the episode providing a nice reveal during it’s second-half. The father’s reasonable, if irrational, abduction works out well (in that the entire thread turns dramatic rather than action-thriller), and the series leaves open the possibility that Carter may see him again.

With Root back on the loose, but having learned a little restraint from her time in the mental hospital, it will be interesting to see where The Machine takes her now. I’m still very much in favor of a Shaw/Root spin-off series, but we’ll have to wait and see what show creator Jonathan Nolan has in store for the rest of the season.

The ladies kicked butt this week. My favorite part was Root toying with her doctor.
