Throwback Tuesday takes us back to Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! for another mystery involving some meddling kids and their talking dog. While on vacation in Hawaii (where they also brought the Mystery Machine suggesting they somehow drove it to Hawaii?), Mystery, Inc. takes a case involving a Witch Doctor (John Stephenson), the disappearance of several locals, and a giant statue of Hawaiian god Mano Tiki Tia come to life. In the end, the reason behind the Witch Doctor and statue are explained by crooks looking to scare away both locals and tourists in order to hide their pearl-poaching operation.

Aside form the locale, which is worked into several spots of the episode (including mentions of luaus, poi, and  Scooby in a hula skirt), the episode is notable for a disguise bit involving Shaggy (Casey Kasem), Velma (Nicole Jaffe), and Scooby pretending to be Tarzan, Jane, and Cheeta, and yet another trap that goes haywire but still manages to catch the crooks in the end. The plot also involves a rigged plane crash complete with skeleton and tape recording that is never explained how it relates to the larger plot and includes a red-herring of an investigator playing the role of an old local who turns out to be an investigator looking into the smuggling.
