Smallville Saturday takes us back to the introduction of Clark‘s (Tom Welling) X-Ray Vision which coincidentally manifests itself in an episode that proves quite useful as another classmate changed by meteorite rocks has developed a shape-shifting ability to become anyone she wants to be and decided to put this ability to use for notorious purposes including robbing the local bank as Lex (Michael Rosenbaum), and, in full single white female mode, attempting to take over the life of Lana (Kristin Kreuk).

Lizzy Caplan guest-stars as the unhinged Tina Greer who impersonates several characters over the course of the episode and attempts to murder Clark on at least three separate occasions. The character would make a return appearance in the show’s Second Season. Caplan would become the show’s first female meteor freak, and the first one who would make a return appearance a season later. The X-Ray ability, which it takes him most of the episode to get control of, allows for Clark to identify Tina as the town’s shapeshifter, save Lana from being buried alive, and also unintentionally give Clark an inside look at the girls’ locker room.

The episode is also notable for Lana’s subplot learning more about her mother which leads to the first real interaction between Lana and Chloe (Allison Mack), whose investigative skills are on display again (albeit not for an meteor-related subject), and the start of that friendship. In a subplot involving a tabloid reporter’s (Tom O’Brien) attempts to blackmail Lex, we get allusions to his juvenile delinquency, see glimpses of the evil machinations he’s capable of, and learn Lex is still investigating just what happened that fateful day on the bridge and looking for answers about how he and Clark both survived.
