Throwback Thursday takes us back to a mystery involving the Three Investigators whose mantra of “We Investigate Everything” leads them into one of the weakest mysteries of their careers, the solution of which relies both on the ideas of both a ghost and and the idea of astral projection being real. The novel is also stuck with an unfortunate title that gives away the mystery even before the story gets around to properly setting it up.

Odd occurrence in an apartment house are brought to the attention of the Three Investigators by a client who believes some kind of shadowy figure is breaking into his apartment. Other strange events include a fire in one of the apartments and another tenant being poisoned as well as the theft of a small crystal dog (to which the title of the novel refers) and the appearance of a ghost at the church down the road.

Calling out the “invisible” nature of the missing crystal statue rather than refer to the mystery of the missing dog is a big clue to the just what happened to the valuable trinket that shouldn’t take any reader long to figure out. Eventually most of the other events will get tied back to the theft by our trio of trio of Jupiter JonesPete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews who not only recover the missing statue but also catch the thief red-handed (well, with black-spots on his hands actually).
