This Week in Foreign Film

From across the pond comes this tale an unlikely friendship between Will (Bill Miner), the youngest of an uber-religious family, and the school’s wild child Lee Carter (Will Poulter) and their attempts to make a film based off First BloodJessica Hynes, Jules Sitruk, Taylor Ricahrdson, and Charlie Thrift also star.  Check out the official site.  We’ve seen it and we’ll have the review when the film opens in limited release in select cities on Friday.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Independent Film

The latest from writer/director Harmony Korine (Julien Donkey-Boy), in what is the early leader for most bizarre film of 2008, stars Diego Luna as a Michael Jackson impersonator who meets a Marilyn Monroe look-alike (Samantha Morton) and is invited to join her commune in Scotland where she lives with other others including Charlie Chaplin (Denis Lavant) and Shirley Temple.  The supporting cat includes director Werner Herzog, magician David Blaine, Joseph Morgan, and Anita Pallenberg as the Queen of England.  The film opens in limited release in select cities on Friday.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) is a career businesswoman and a Vice President of a successful line of health food stores.  Her life, however, is incomplete.

Informed by her doctor (John Hodgman) of her inability to conceive, and unable to wait for adoption, Kate decides to go in a different direction.  She enlists the help of Chaffe Bicknell (Sigourney Weaver) who offers the service of uniting women wanting children with surrogate mothers.

Kate shells out $100,000 and finds white trash Angie (Amy Poehler) and her deadbeat common law husband Carl (Dax Shepard) on her doorstep.  Angie agrees to carry Kate’s baby to term and before you can say shenanigans things get crazy.
