Preacher - El Valero

Unable to pull Euguene (Ian Colletti) back from Hell, except in a ghostly visage that only he can see and hear, and growing tired of the battle to fight off Odin Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley) and his men from taking the church, Jesse allows DeBlanc (Tom Brooke) and Fiore (Anatol Yusef) to remove Genesis from him. However, that doesn’t last long as Genesis returns to its new host almost immediately, this time apparently for good.

Preacher - He Gone

“He Gone” includes multiple flashbacks to Jesse‘s (Dominic Cooper) childhood, his friendship with Tulip (Ruth Negga), their separation, and the all-important promise Jesse made to his father (Nathan Darrow) one fateful night after the boy’s prayer was answered. These scenes help to inform the friendship between the pair as well as Jesse’s shock and seeing his wishes suddenly granted following his union with Genesis. Although he shows shock at what he did to Eugene (Ian Colletti), Jesse shows no remorse for his actions – even after being confronted by Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) who witnessed the event.

Preacher - Sundowner

Featuring one of the most unique and insane action sequences I’m seen on television, “Sundowner” finally fills in Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) and the audience on just what he’s been carrying around inside his gut these past few weeks. Learning just what Genesis is, the byproduct of a forbidden union between and angel and a demon, Jesse at first seems willing to let DeBlanc (Tom Brooke) and Fiore (Anatol Yusef) remove it from him. And then the seraphim (Audrey Walters) shows up for a bat-shit crazy motel battle that leaves angel bodies strewn everywhere and Jesse with serious doubts that giving back his new gift is the right thing to do.

Preacher - South Will Rise Again

Jesse (Dominic Cooper) is feeling pretty good about himself. His ability to turn Odin Quincannon (Jackie Earle Haley) towards God has made him the town’s new hero (even if neither he, nor the town, see how “well” this turns out for Odin’s potential business partners). Continuing to use his gift to increase the size of his flock and help with the questions brought to him by his parishioners, Jesse even goes so far as to bring some peace to Eugene (Ian Colletti) by forcing Terri Loach (Bonita Friedericy) to forgive the man for her daughter’s vegetative state. Of course the final scene of Jesse meeting DeBlanc (Tom Brooke) and Fiore (Anatol Yusef) for the first time, and learning what he has inside him may be far more complicated than what he believes, may just damage the preacher’s calm.

Preacher - Monster Swamp

As Jesse (Dominic Cooper) begins putting his new powers to good use, Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) stalls Fiore (Tom Brooke) and DeBlanc (Anatol Yusef) while failing to impress on Jesse the danger the preacher is in from two wayward angels. The episode also provides our first flashbacks to Jesse’s childhood and his relationship with his father (Nathan Darrow) and introduces Jackie Earle Haley as the town’s most influential man, Odin Quincannon, whose attendance at church in the episode’s closing scene is crucial to Jesse’s plan to grow and save All Saints’ Congregational Church.
